Heidelberg Clinic for Prostate Therapy is the first clinic in the world to treat prostate cancer with photosensitive Chlorin E6
Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is an innovative form of cancer treatment that uses light to treat malignant tumours in a very targeted way. It has already proven successful for many forms of cancer – including skin cancer, bladder, lung and bile duct carcinomas.
Success has also been seen in the treatment of breast cancer and brain tumours. It was previously not possible to use this special form of PDT to treat prostate cancer. However, the Heidelberg Clinic for Prostate Therapy is the first in the world to use the procedure with a special photoactive substance, Chlorin E6, produced on the University campus in Heidelberg.
